Abstract
Mathematics and culture are a unity that goes hand in hand. Learning mathematics by involving cultural concepts in it or commonly called ethnomathematics is an innovation in learning. Batik Kawung is a local culture of the Surakarta and Yogyakarta regions which contains ethnomathematics concepts in the form of geometric shapes. This study aims to describe the rectangular and polygonal geometric shapes found in kawung batik motifs in mathematics learning. This research method uses a qualitative ethnographic approach with inductive data analysis. Using 3 data collection techniques, namely in the form of observation, interviews, and documentation. Test the validity of the data in this study using the triangulation method. Data analysis techniques in this study were carried out interactively from the stages of data collection, data reduction, data presentation, and drawing conclusions. The results of this study indicate that the Ethnomathematics of the Kawung batik motif has flat geometric shapes. The flat geometric shapes for elementary schools found in the Kawung batik motif are circles, rhombuses, squares and triangles. The rectangular shape, namely the square, is found in the kawung sari batik motif, the rhombus is found in the kawung sen batik motif, and the kawung ageng batik motif. The motif that has a circular flat geometric shape is found in the kawung bribil batik motif. Ethno-mathematics in the Kawung batik motif can be implemented in learning mathematics in class IV elementary school flat shapes, namely in the form of Student Worksheets (LKPD). The ethnomathematics of the Kawung batik motif contains geometric concepts of flat shapes which include area and circumference. In the process of learning mathematics related to culture, namely kawung batik motifs and students' daily experiences can improve students' ability to understand mathematical concepts. An ethnomathematics approach to learning mathematics can make mathematics lessons more relevant and meaningful to students.
