Abstract
The aims of this study were to find out: 1) the application of Problem Based Learning method to enhance learning creativity of class XI students in Social Sciences Department at SMA Muhammadiyah 3 Surakarta in academic year 2018/2019, 2) the application of Problem Based Learning method to improve students’ learning interest of class XI students, Department of Social Sciences at SMA Muhammadiyah 3 Surakarta in academic year 20 18/2019. This research is Classroom Action Research (CAR) with an action design through four stages consisting of planning, acting, observing, reflecting. The research subjects were students of class XI Social Sciences Department at SMA Muhammadiyah 3 Surakarta in academic year 2018/2019. The data in this study were primary data in which collected directly and added from the field in the form of learning implementation with the Problem Based Learning method in class. Techniques which are used to collect the data above include: observation, interviews and documentation studies. The data were analyzed by using comparative descriptive analysis and critical analysis techniques. The research procedure goes through four stages that must be passed, namely: planning, implementation, observation, and reflection. Based on the research that had been done, the results show that: 1) through the application of problem based learning method can increase creativity, proven by the pre-action presentation the score reached 32%, in the first cycle of student creativity 60.7% and in the second cycle increased to 89.2% and in turn student learning outcomes improved, especially class XI AKL 2 students in odd semester at SMA Muhammadiyah 3 Surakarta in academic year 2018/2019 with an increase of the average value of the conditions from cycle I to cycle II with the average value of 70.6 to 82.5, 2) through the application of problem based learning method can improve student learning interest in which in pre-action there were 16 students (53.3%) with a very low category, meanwhile in cycles I and II there was a decrease of students in that category, even in cycle II no longer found students with very low categories.
