Abstract

Decision making in choosing a major is something that must be experienced when deciding on a further school. The purpose of this study is to describe the factors that influence students, the steps and the basis for student decision making in choosing the majors in Accounting and Institutional Finance. This study uses a qualitative method with a phenomenological approach (phenomenological approach). Data collection techniques using the method of observation, interviews and documentation. The validity of the data using triangulation techniques and sources. Interactive model data analysis with data reduction steps, data presentation and conclusion drawing. Factors that influence decision making are social factors which include reference groups, family, and social environment, personal factors from students who feel good at counting but are weak in terms of memorizing material and vice versa, as well as psychological factors in the form of advice to help them in making decisions. . The steps in the decision-making process are setting goals, identifying problems, developing a number of alternatives, evaluating and selecting alternatives, implementing decisions, evaluating and controlling. The basis for decision making uses the basis of rational thinking.
