Abstract

Weak understanding of the character and identity of the region makes Magetan Regency unable to have an icon that can raise its name. This factor is one of the reasons why this area is not well known. This condition is quite detrimental, considering that Magetan Regency has always “ordained” itself as a tourist city. In fact, Magetan Regency is surrounded by various potentials that can be developed properly, especially in the tourism sector. Magetan Regency also has several superior sectors that can be seen from the many potentials of culture, food, and very authentic Magetan handicrafts. Based on these problems, the authors carry out a planning and design of the Center for Handicraft and Cultural Facilities that can accommodate craftsmen and cultural activists in Magetan Regency so that they are able to form a strong identity in the surrounding area. In addition, this planning and design aims to be able to create a sense of place or a strong bond between the user and the designed place. The approach is carried out by representing physical and non-physical forms based on stimuli that can shape public perceptions of the character and identity of the Magetan district. This effort is expected to be able to make the name Magetan more recognized and visited by outsiders, so that the potential in Magetan Regency can be further developed and have a direct impact on tourism growth in Magetan Regency.
