Abstract

This study aims to examine the relationship between self-concept and reference groups with consumptive behavior during the pandemic. The approach used is correlational quantitative. Data collection instruments in the form of consumptive behavior scale, self-concept scale, and reference group scale. There is a relationship between self-concept and reference groups with consumptive behavior during the Covid-19 pandemic, which is the major hypothesis of this study. There is a negative relationship between self-concept and consumptive behavior during the Covid-19 pandemic, which is the first minor hypothesis and there is a positive relationship between the reference group and consumptive behavior during the Covid-19 pandemic, which is the second minor hypothesis. The subjects used are students who are pursuing higher education in the Central Java region who have done shopping activities during the Covid-19 pandemic with a total of 200 people. Purposive sampling is a sampling technique used. Multiple regression is a data analysis technique used. Based on the results of the analysis, it was found that there was a significant relationship between self-concept and the reference group with consumptive behavior during the Covid-19 pandemic, there was a significant negative relationship between self-concept and consumptive behavior during the Covid-19 pandemic, and there was a significant positive relationship between the reference group and behavior. consumers during the Covid-19 pandemic. The amount of effective contribution of self-concept variables and reference groups is 36.9%, with the contribution of self-concept variables is 9.179% and the contribution of reference group variables is 27.702%.
