Abstract
Recently, museums in Indonesia have become the belle of the millennial generation's agenda. The goals are varied, ranging from increasing interest in the art world, just to fulfill curiosity, to a place to show one's existence, especially in the realm of social media. This is a unique condition. In the past, the museum had a segmented image that seemed to be only for certain people who were really interested. In fact, some people think that the museum is an ancient and boring place. Museums are basically places where tangible (fossils, artifacts) and intangible (values, traditions, norms) are exhibited. The main role and function of the museum is as an educational and recreational institution. The challenge is how what is conveyed in a museum exhibition can be easily understood by the public. However, the problem with today's museums is that the museum's showroom, which is one of the most important elements, is not getting enough attention between the continuity of the material and the layout of the exhibition spaces. Museums in Indonesia have not been able to present an interesting, informative, and attractive educational model or transfer of knowledge to the public. Space elements and exhibition objects influence each other and form meaning in a spatial relationship. The narrative architectural approach has several principles that can be applied to museum showrooms. This approach is usually chosen based on the understanding that each building has its own narrative. The characteristics of narrative architecture are influenced by the variables of plot, zoning, circulation, and the atmosphere of space in the arrangement of museum spaces which can be included in the space program of a museum. The redesign of the Sangiran Ancient Museum building aims to redesign the museum which is one of the icons of Sragen Regency through a narrative approach. The museum is considered still not able to carry out its function properly. Using a narrative approach, it is hoped that this will be able to overcome the problems that occur and provide a step forward for museums in Indonesia.
