Abstract
This research is a study that discusses the effectiveness of using open learning applications in ICT courses. The objectives of this study are: 1). to describe students' perceptions of the application of open learning at the University of Muhammadiyah Surakarta. 2). describe how ICT learning using open learning in the English language education department of the University of Muhammadiyah Surakarta. 3). describe the difficulties faced by students in ICT learning by using open learning in the English language education department of the University of Muhammadiyah Surakarta. 4) to describe the solution to the problems faced by students in using open learning applications at the University of Muhammadiyah Surakarta. Researchers use qualitative descriptive methods. The subjects of the study were english language education students who had taken ICT courses totaling 11 english language education students from various classes. Data collection techniques include observation and filling out questionnaires through Google forms. The result of this research is that students perceive that open learning is an application that helps them understand ICT courses and in the future open learning is expected to be useful as an additional insight and knowledge about the application of e-learning in ICT courses. Based on these results , researchers have implications for teachers because they are figures for students in learning when teaching. During class time, the teacher must prepare all the necessary materials. Excellent media, lesson plans, time management, and teaching approaches are essential to prepare for. And for students in the Indonesian educational structure, students occupy the highest level of educational units among others. From this understanding, it can be understood that student perceptions are responses or assessments needed for suggestions and input so that the teaching and learning process of ICT courses using open learning becomes even better in the future.
