Abstract

This study aims at describing (1) how is the students’ perception on tourism hospitality taught by using Open Learning at Department of English Education Universitas Muhammadiyah Surakarta, and (2) the challenges faced by the students in using Open Learning as their learning media. This study is descriptive qualitative in which the technique of collecting data is interview. The subject of this research is the students of tourism hospitality subject in Department of English Education Univeristas Muhammadiyah Surakarta. The result of this research shows that: (1) the students using Open Learning to access their learning materials, task, and learning contract, (2) the students get instruction and help in doing the assignment by using Whatsapp group chat, (3) the students must complete every task in Open Learning. While the challenges are, (1) unstable internet connection, (2) unfamiliar with Open Learning feature, and (3) the public submit system makes the students to copy others’ work easily.
