Abstract

The ability of junior high school students to think creatively, especially Mathematics, is still low, one of which is solving high-order Thinking Skills. This study aims to describe students 'creative thinking skills in solving HOTS type problems in terms of students' abilities in the material of one variable linear equations. Based on his approach this research is qualitative. When this research was conducted in the odd semester of the 2019/2020 school year. The subjects of this study were students of class VII. Data collection techniques are primary data for the results of answers and interviews while secondary data is documentation in the form of answers. The validity of the data is done by triangulation of techniques by comparing the results of answers and interviews. Data analysis techniques are done by data reduction, data presentation, and drawing conclusions. The results obtained by students' high initial ability shows students can have good creative thinking skills so that students with high abilities can meet aspects of fluency, flexibility, and originality. In the medium ability the students have met the fluency aspects but have not yet met the aspects of flexibility and originality. At the beginning of low ability in mathematics, students have not been able to do the problems correctly. So students with low ability do not meet the aspects of fluency, flexibility, and originality.
