Abstract

Abstract This study aims to describe the empathy of adolescent addicted to gadgets. The method in this study is a qualitative phenomenology based on the experience the subject has experienced in accordance with the social conditions that are realized and sourced from the subject's understanding and beliefs. The method of data collection in this study uses semi-structured interviews. The subjects in this study were 5 junior high school students in Surakarta and Karanganyar. Based on the results of the analysis it can be concluded that empathy in teen addicted to gadgets is to become a person, join what other people feel, feel pity, feel bad, feel restless, closeness and sharing relationships if there is more fortune. Factors that influence empathy are savings in the hereafter, feeling empathy is innate since long ago, wanting to help people who are not known, seeing parents sharing, encouragement, feeling embarrassed when visiting mental hospitals, wanting to make others happy, family teachings, feeling relieved helping others, hoping for their kindness and being happy. The impact felt by the subject that is caring, adding friends, friendships become better, preferred by others, eliminating arrogance, more grateful, more attentive, more caring. As for the negative impact felt by the subject that is too taking care of the lives of others, too involved in the feelings of others, deceiving, sorry, more concerned with others and feel underestimated by others.
