Abstract

The purpose of this study are three, namely (1) Analyzing and testing the effect of the Open ended approach and the scientific approach to the learning outcomes of mathematics. (2) Analyzing and testing the effect of problem solving skills on mathematics learning outcomes. (3) Analyze and test the interaction between learning approaches and problem solving skills on mathematics learning outcomes. The sampling technique is cluster random sampling. The inner population used in the study is class VIII Surakarta Batik Middle School 2018/2019 academic year. The sample used in the study included two classes. The method of data collection used a test method consisting of multiple choice tests and description tests. The data analysis technique uses a two-lane variance with the same cell which before the precast test has been carried out consisting of a normality test and a homogeneity test with a significance level of 5%. The results obtained from the study are 1) There is the influence of using the open ended approach and the scientific approach to the learning outcomes of mathematics. 2) There is the influence of problem solving skills on student mathematics learning outcomes. 3) There is no interaction between the learning approach and the problem solving ability towards the mathematics learning outcomes
