Abstract

The tendency of the implementation of the lecture method in the classroom learning process by the teachers of SMP Negeri 2 Colomadu Karangayar became the background of this study. The use of video learning media is needed as an innovation in the teaching and learning process in the classroom to attract students' learning interest in learning, so as to improve student learning outcomes. The purpose of this study was to determine the effectiveness of the use of learning video media to improve student learning outcomes. This research is a quantitative research using experimental research methods. The research design was True Experimental Design which was carried out by giving pre test and post test in the control class and experimental class. Student learning outcomes are known from the comparison of the pretest and posttest results. The learning outcomes of students in the control class given the lecture method showed a pretest value of 6.6 and a posttest score of only 8.1 with an average of 7.35. There was an increase in student learning outcomes in the experimental class which was treated using video media, pretest and posttest in the experimental class showed a pretest value of 6.5, while the posttest was 9.0 with an average of 7.75. The conclusion of this study shows that the learning in the experimental class that applies video learning media is more effective to improve student learning outcomes in social studies of volcanic material compared to learning using the lecture method in the control class.
