Abstract

This study aims to describe (a) the content of material literary contained in Indonesian textbooks class VIII (b) the relevance of material literary contained in the Indonesian textbooks class VIII with the Core Competence of Curriculum 2013, and (c) the relevance of material literary contained in the Indonesian textbooks class VIII with Basic Competence of Curriculum 2013. The type of this research is descriptive qualitative research which is focused in research content or documents analysis.the Data is in the form of words, sentences, core competence and basic competence, and material literary on Indonesian textbooks for Junior High School class VIII published by the ministry of Education and Culture in 2017. The Techniques data collection by reading techniques, references, notes, interviews and questionnaires. The data analysis by analysis content technique and qualitative technique. The research findings show that (a) the content of material literary presented in this text is poetry, prose covering novels, film reviews, song reviews, short stories and drama, (b) the relevance of material literary with Core Competence is presented in six subjects the literary material is said to be relevant because it will provide adequate activity and explanation while the two subjects of the material literary is irrelevant because it is not the focus of providing explanations and adquate activities for the achievement of Core Competencies; and the last (c) the relevance of material literary with Basic Competence is present by eight subjects material literary that relevant to Basic Competence and as much as five subject matter of material literary that’s not relevant to Basic Competence.
