Abstract

The purpose of this study so that students are more courageous in learning mathematics and can think actively, critically and creatively. The study was conducted in odd semester for student class VII A at SMP N 1 Gatak in academic year 2016/2017. Type of research data in the form of action learning in the classroom by using STAD cooperative approach to improve the courage the students do exercises in front of the class. The data source is taken information from the teacher. The techniques of data collection by interview, observation and documentation of field notes in the classroom during the learning process. The results were obtained, consist of 3 parts: (1) the ability of courage to advance in front of the class work on the matter of exercise in learning increases with the initial condition of 18.75%, the first cycle 34.375% and the second cycle 59.375%. (2) the ability of students who dare to ask in learning through cooperative type approach STAD increases with the initial condition of 15.625%, the first cycle of 37.5% and 62.5% the second cycle. (3) the ability of students active in learning by explaining the results of exercise quetions also increasing with the initial condition of 9.375%, the first cycle of 18.75% and 40.625% second cycle.
