Abstract

This study aims to describe (1) sociohistorical setting of the author; (2) Structure in short stories in Class XI Indonesian Language textbooks; (3) Social values in short stories in the XI class Indonesian textbook with a sociology of literature approach; (4) Relevance of the results of short stories social values as teaching material in high school. The type and design of this research is descriptive qualitative and the strategy used is the case study strategy and fixed studies. The data in this study are in the form of documents that are sentences and paragraphs that contain social values in short stories in Class XI Indonesian textbooks. Data sources are short stories in the XI Class of Self-Expression and Academic Indonesian textbooks. Data collection techniques use techniques to see and note. Data validity uses triangulation theory. Data analysis techniques in this study use the dialectic method. As a research sample, the results and discussion of one of the short stories in the Indonesian Language and Academic Expression Class XI textbooks are "Paing" short stories by Edi Haryono. (1) Sociohistorical setting, Edi Haryono is a literary born in Java; (2) Short story structure, raising the theme of the struggle for life. The flow in the short story uses an advanced plot. The main character is Paing. The time frame is not clearly stated. Place setting in Jakarta. The social setting is behavior and simplicity; (3) Social values in short stories in the Indonesian Expression and Academic Class XI Indonesian textbooks are values of affection, value of responsibility, and value of life harmony; (4) The results of this study are relevant to KD 3.1 and 4.1 so that they are suitable to be used as teaching materials in high school because the short story teaching materials are in accordance with the criteria of teaching materials namely language, psychology, and cultural setting.
