Abstract

The development of flexible and modern working patterns has created a growing demand for workspaces that foster collaboration, creativity, and social interaction. Klaten Regency, located strategically between Surakarta and Yogyakarta, has significant potential to develop as a center for creative economic activities. However, the region still lacks a coworking space facility that accommodates the needs of its productive community, such as students, freelancers, small business owners, and local creative groups. This Coworking Space design in Klaten adopts the placemaking architectural approach, which emphasizes the creation of spaces that are not only functional but also capable of building social experiences and a strong sense of place among users. The design approach focuses on several key aspects, including spatial connectivity, environmental comfort, local identity, and user participation in shaping an active and inclusive atmosphere. The design concept applies an open and flexible spatial arrangement that connects working areas, public zones, and communal spaces. Local materials such as exposed brick, wood, and tropical vegetation are utilized to strengthen the regional architectural character of Klaten. Consequently, this Coworking Space is expected to serve not only as a place for work but also as a collaborative environment that supports the growth of the creative economy, enhances social interaction, and reflects the local cultural identity of Klaten.
