Abstract

This study aims to analyze the communication strategies of urban youth Generation Z in the Karang Taruna Kota ecosystem, the communication accommodation process that occurs in cross-cultural interactions between villages and cities, and the cultural factors that influence their communication patterns. The study used a qualitative approach with a case study method on members of Karang Taruna Madegondo Village, Sukoharjo. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, participant observation, and documentation, then analyzed using Communication Accommodation Theory. Research findings indicate that the process of communication accommodation in interactions between rural and urban adolescents occurs through convergence, specifically, the adjustment of language, accent, and communication style to foster social closeness and enhance group acceptance. Additionally, instances of communication divergence were observed, representing efforts to preserve local cultural identity through the use of rural-specific language and values as a means of asserting identity and respecting diversity. The study also identified the presence of over-accommodation, excessive communication adjustment aimed at gaining social acceptance which, however, carries the potential to create identity tension and diminish the authenticity of communication.
