Abstract
Background: Prolonged computer use among office workers has the potential to increase the risk of musculoskeletal disorders, including pain in the upper trapezius muscle due to static and non-ergonomic working postures, although previous studies have reported inconsistent findings. Objective: This study aimed to analyze the relationship between the duration of computer use and the intensity of upper trapezius muscle pain among office workers at the National and Political Unity Agency of Brebes Regency. Methods: This study employed an analytic observational design with a cross-sectional approach, involving 52 respondents selected through purposive sampling. Data collected included respondent characteristics, duration of computer use, and intensity of upper trapezius muscle pain; the Kolmogorov–Smirnov normality test indicated that the data were not normally distributed, therefore the analysis was conducted using Spearman’s rho correlation test. Results: There was no significant relationship between the duration of computer use, both in hours per day and days per week, and the intensity of upper trapezius pain over the past 1 day, 1 week, and 1 month (p > 0.05). Conclusion: The duration of computer use is not significantly associated with the intensity of upper trapezius muscle pain, suggesting that such complaints are likely influenced by multifactorial aspects such as work ergonomics, body posture, rest frequency, and individual characteristics.
