Abstract

The design of the Batik Art and Cultural Center in Cirebon is motivated by the great potential of batik as a cultural heritage and local identity that needs to be preserved and developed. Cirebon as one of the centers of batik in Indonesia, especially with its distinctive Mega Mendung motif, has high historical, aesthetic, and economic value. However, the limited integrated facilities that can accommodate educational activities, production, and cultural tourism are still a major problem. The purpose of this design is to present a container that is able to integrate educational, production, exhibition, and recreational functions in one representative area. The approach used is neo-vernacular architecture, which combines local traditional architectural values with modern technology and needs. The design concept adapts the form and philosophy of the Mega Mendung batik motif as well as traditional architectural elements such as the limasan roof, which is realized in the composition of the mass, facade, and interior elements. The design method is carried out through site analysis, precedent studies, and functional and contextual approaches to the surrounding environment. The resulting design is a batik center area with clear zoning between public, semi-public, and private areas, as well as directed circulation to support visitor comfort and activities within. It is hoped that the Batik Art and Cultural Center will serve as a center for the preservation, development, and promotion of Cirebon batik culture, while simultaneously enhancing tourism appeal and the local economy.
