Abstract

This study aims to examine the effect of the U.S.-Israel military conflict against Iran on February 28, 2026, on abnormal returns. The study population consists of all stocks in the oil and gas subsector during the 115-trading day observation period. The sample, selected using purposive sampling, consists of 9 companies in the oil and gas subsector. This study is an event study using the market model method with a window period of 15 trading days (t-7 and t+7). The analytical methods used include the normality test, one-sample t-test, Wilcoxon signed-rank test, and paired-sample t-test. The results indicate that, overall, there were no significant abnormal returns on most event days, although significant abnormal returns were observed on days (t-4) and (t0). Furthermore, the difference test revealed no significant difference in abnormal returns between the periods before and after the U.S.–Israeli attack on Iran. These findings indicate the presence of semi-strong informational market efficiency, meaning that the market reacts quickly to information about such events and does not generate sustained abnormal returns. This study implies that investors need to monitor event information quickly but remain cautious when making investment decisions, as market reactions do not persist significantly over the longer term.
