Abstract

This study aims to analyze the negative emotions experienced by Becky, the main character in Fall (2022) directed by Scott Mann, through Sigmund Freud's psychoanalytic theory of personality structure (Id, Ego, and Superego). The objectives are (1) to identify the kinds of negative emotions experienced by Becky, (2) to analyze the causes of those negative emotions, and (3) to explain how the emotions are represented through the dynamics of the Id, Ego, and Superego. This research employed a qualitative descriptive method using library research. Primary data were obtained from the film Fall (2022), including dialogues, monologues, and visual scenes; secondary data were collected from books, journals, theses, and other relevant academic sources. Data collection involved repeatedly watching the film, identifying scenes containing negative emotions, classifying the data, and interpreting them using Freud's psychoanalytic framework. The findings reveal six primary negative emotions: fear, sadness, anger, guilt, shame, and despair. The Freudian analysis reveals that unresolved trauma leads to the dominance of the Id in the early narrative stages, followed by the restoration of Ego function through rational decision-making, and the development of the Superego through moral reconciliation with the father figure. These findings confirm that Fall (2022) not only presents a survival narrative but also illustrates a psychological journey from trauma toward emotional acceptance.
