Abstract
he Jlantah Dam project in Jatiyoso District led to the massive loss of productive agricultural areas, a situation that posed a serious risk to regional food security. This research was conducted to evaluate the effects of such spatial shrinkage on harvest capacity fluctuations during the initial construction period between 2019 and 2020. The applied methodology integrated spatial readings of land cover matrices with quantitative calculations of agronomic indicators. Field findings revealed an extreme reduction in raw paddy fields from 1,109 hectares to only 731 hectares, following the extensive development of the dam's supporting infrastructure. Facing this land scarcity, local farmers adapted by heavily forcing planting intensities. This strategy successfully propelled the cropping index from 2.55 to 4.10 times a year, which subsequently created a phenomenon of harvested area expansion from 2,836 to 3,000 hectares. Unfortunately, this excessive agricultural exploitation ultimately induced soil exhaustion. Such ecological deterioration was clearly indicated by the drop in real crop productivity from 6.59 tons per hectare to 6.04 tons per hectare. Consequently, the cumulative total of rice produced in the region still declined from 18,691 tons to 18,106 tons.
