Abstract
The Tegalwaton Horse Racing Arena is located in Tegalwaton Village, Semarang Regency, and is one of the equestrian sports facilities with potential to be developed as a sports and educational facility. The redesign aims to provide a representative, functional, comfortable, and sustainable equestrian sports facility through a sustainable architecture approach. The main problems of the existing conditions include the deterioration of physical facilities, suboptimal user comfort and safety, and the lack of an integrated environmental and waste management system. The design method was carried out through site analysis, space requirements, mass arrangement, circulation, zoning, and the application of sustainable architecture principles, particularly the concept of balance between humans, animals, and nature. The concept is implemented through passive design strategies, such as optimizing natural ventilation and lighting, utilizing green open spaces, using environmentally friendly materials, water management through permeable surfaces and rainwater harvesting, and processing horse manure into fertilizer and biogas that can be reused for the needs of the site. The site arrangement also considers the separation and integration of circulation for users, horses, and vehicles to create a safe and organized environment. The design results are expected to produce an efficient, adaptive, comfortable, and sustainable built environment that reflects the values of ecological and functional balance comprehensively.
