Abstract

Banyudono, Boyolali Regency, has significant potential in water resources, freshwater fisheries, and an agrarian landscape that can be developed as an agro-tourism destination. However, these potentials have not yet been optimally utilized as an integrated tourism area that combines production, education, recreation, and local economic activities. This design study aims to develop a fishery agro-tourism area that integrates aquaculture, educational, and recreational activities through a waterfront design approach, thereby strengthening the identity of Banyudono as a water-resource-based area. The method employed is descriptive-analytical and conceptual, consisting of literature studies, field observations, comparative studies, site analysis, activity and spatial requirement analysis, and design synthesis. The results indicate that the area can be developed into five main zones: front area, core visitor experience, core production area, economic and public space, and back of house. Waterfront elements are not treated as a separate zone but are distributed throughout the area through fish ponds, promenades, waterfront seating areas, waterfront gardens, and water attractions. The building concept is inspired by the form of koi fish viewed from above, with two masses representing a yin-yang-like movement, complemented by a courtyard and water fountain to support spatial orientation and cross ventilation. The total programmed area is approximately 15,739.24 m², comprising indoor and outdoor spaces. The design is expected to enhance the economic, educational, and recreational value of the area while strengthening the local identity of Banyudono in a sustainable manner.
