Abstract

This study aims to examine the influence of social support and self-regulated learning on students' academic engagement. The hypotheses proposed are that there is a positive influence of social support on academic engagement, a positive relationship between selfregulated learning and academic engagement, and a positive relationship between the combination of social support and self-regulated learning and students' academic engagement. The participants consisted of 136 active undergraduate students (aged 18– 25) from various universities in Surakarta, selected using purposive sampling. This study employed a quantitative approach with a correlational design. Data were collected via online questionnaires using the Social Support Scale (adapted from the Multidimensional Scale of Perceived Social Support/MSPSS), the Self-Regulated Learning Scale (based on Zimmerman's theory), and the Academic Engagement Scale (based on Fredricks et al.). Data analysis was performed using regression analysis via Jamovi software. The results indicate that social support and self-regulated learning simultaneously have a significant effect on academic engagement (F = 68.9; p < .001), with a coefficient of determination of R² = 0.509. Individually, social support had a significant positive effect (t = 2.79; p = .006), whereas self-regulated learning had a significant negative effect (t = -8.73; p < .001). The study demonstrates that social support plays a crucial role in enhancing students' academic engagement, while the relationship between self-regulated learning and academic engagement warrants further investigation. The study's implications highlight the importance of social support in boosting academic engagement and provide a foundation for future research on the factors influencing self-regulated learning.
