Abstract
This research aims to identify the forms and characteristics of innovative leadership of school principals, describe their role in improving the quality of education, and analyze the strategies of school principals in building synergy with the business world and the industrial world (DUDI) at SMK Batik 1 Surakarta. This research uses a qualitative approach with a case study type. Data was obtained through semi-structured interviews, observations, and documentation involving school principals, teachers, and education staff. The validity of the data is strengthened through triangulation of sources and techniques. The results of the study show that the innovative leadership of school principals is realized through the development of project-based learning and Teaching Factory, curriculum alignment with industry needs, and teacher competency development through training, upskilling, and industrial internships. SMK Batik 1 Surakarta has established partnerships with 18 companies in the fields of textiles, light manufacturing, creative design, and information technology. The partnership includes industrial work practices, curriculum alignment, teacher competency improvement, and graduate distribution. In the last two years, there has been an increase of about 40% in the number of teachers participating in upskilling and industrial internship programs. In 2024 graduates, as many as 32% were recorded as being recruited directly by partner companies through the school recruitment mechanism. These figures show the contribution of partnerships to graduate recruitment access, but are not positioned as an overall rate of graduate uptake. The implementation of innovation faces obstacles in the form of limited resources and differences in readiness to accept change. School principals overcome this through communication, mentoring, providing space to try innovation, and strengthening collaboration. Overall, innovative leadership contributes to building a collaborative and adaptive work culture and strengthens the school's strategic relationship with DUDI.
