Abstract
Speech uttered in every interaction between humans has a certain meaning and purpose. The existence of illocutionary speech acts can determine the meaning and purpose of each person. Speech acts are not only found in everyday communication, but can also be found in literary works in the form of prose. One of them is a novel. The novel that will be studied in this study is the novel Spy in Love by Dwitasari. This study aims to describe the types of expressive and directive illocutionary speech acts in the novel Spy in Love by Dwitasari. Illocutionary speech acts are speech acts that not only have the function to express something, but can also be used to do something. The reason for choosing expressive and directive illocutionary speech acts is to convey the meaning and function of an utterance that is part of a communication to understand a speech from the speaker. The method used in this study is a qualitative descriptive method. The data collection technique used in this study is the reading and note-taking technique. The data source used in this study is the speech in the novel Spy in Love by Dwitasari which contains expressive and directive illocutionary speech acts. The research revealed 50 types of expressive and directive illocutionary acts. Of these, 25 were expressive and 25 were directive. The results of this study, including expressive and directive illocutionary acts in Dwitasari's novel "Spy in Love," can be implemented as teaching materials for listening to novel texts in Phase F. Educators can use the research findings as teaching materials presented in learning modules in accordance with the Independent Curriculum. Only a few interesting data points can be implemented in listening to novel texts.
