Abstract
Introduction: Aerobic endurance is a fundamental physical component that plays a crucial role in soccer performance. It can be enhanced through the implementation of Circuit Training. Objective: This study aimed to investigate the effect of Circuit Training on improving the aerobic endurance of soccer players. Methods: This study employed a quasi-experimental design using a two-group pretest–posttest control group design. The study sample consisted of 20 soccer players selected through purposive sampling and divided into an intervention group (n = 10) and a control group (n = 10). Both groups participated in a four-week training program conducted three times per week according to the regular training schedule of Blulukan Soccer School. The intervention group received additional Circuit Training before each routine training session, while the control group participated only in the routine training program provided by the coach. Aerobic endurance was assessed using the Harvard Step Test. Data were analyzed using the Shapiro–Wilk test for normality, Levene's test for homogeneity, the Wilcoxon Signed-Rank test, the paired t-test for within-group analysis, and the Mann–Whitney U test for between-group comparisons. Results: The intervention group showed a significant improvement in aerobic endurance after receiving Circuit Training (p = 0.007), whereas the control group showed no significant improvement (p = 0.287). The Mann-Whitney U test yielded a p-value of 0.059, indicating no statistically significant difference in aerobic endurance improvement between the intervention and control groups. However, descriptively, the intervention group demonstrated a greater mean improvement in aerobic endurance than the control group. Conclusion: The addition of Circuit Training before routine training was effective in improving aerobic endurance in the intervention group. However, the difference in improvement between the intervention and control groups was not statistically significant.
