Abstract
The Wärtsilä 20V34DF Engine Generator is the main component of a Barge Mounted Power Plant (BMPP) responsible for continuously generating electrical power. The operational reliability of the engine generator is influenced by the cooling system's ability to maintain proper operating temperature conditions as well as fuel utilization efficiency under different load levels. This study aims to evaluate the operational performance of the Wärtsilä 20V34DF Engine Generator based on radiator cooling system parameters and specific fuel consumption under load variations of 25%, 50%, 75%, and 100%. A descriptive quantitative method was employed using operational data obtained from the engine generator. The analyzed parameters included temperature difference (ΔT), radiator effectiveness, Fuel Rate, Specific Fuel Consumption (SFC), fan speed, and fan current. The collected data were processed to evaluate the cooling system characteristics and fuel consumption performance at each load variation. The results indicate that increasing load causes the temperature difference (ΔT) to rise from 28.0°C to 44.3°C, while the Fuel Rate increases from 641 kg/h to 1994 kg/h. Fan speed also increases from 289 rpm to 714 rpm in response to higher cooling demand. Radiator effectiveness ranges from 63.52% to 81.80%, whereas SFC decreases from 0.262 kg/kWh at 25% load to 0.205 kg/kWh at 100% load. The evaluation results demonstrate that the radiator cooling system is capable of maintaining stable engine operating conditions across all load variations, while specific fuel consumption tends to be more efficient at medium and high load levels. Therefore, radiator cooling system parameters and Specific Fuel Consumption (SFC) can be utilized as indicators for evaluating the operational performance of the Wärtsilä 20V34DF Engine Generator in a Barge Mounted Power Plant (BMPP).
