Abstract
This study aims to describe the intrinsic elements that construct the story and to represent the forms of gender injustice experienced by the characters in the novel Pasung Jiwa by Okky Madasari. The method used in this research is a descriptive qualitative method with a literary hermeneutic approach. Verbal data consisting of story units, dialogues, and narratives were collected through reading and note-taking techniques from the primary data source, the novel Pasung Jiwa. Furthermore, the data were analyzed using an interactive analysis model which includes data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The results of the study show that the intrinsic structure of this novel cohesively constructs a discourse of social criticism. The forms of gender injustice represented in the text include the subordination of roles in the domestic sphere, negative labeling or stereotyping of the characters' gender expressions, as well as marginalization and psychological violence resulting from the strong confinement of patriarchal culture. Such injustice is explicitly depicted through internal and external conflicts faced by the main character in maintaining their human identity
