Abstract
Self-Compacting Concrete (SCC) is a type of concrete characterized by its ability to flow freely into formwork, achieve optimal compaction, and does not require mechanical vibration. Self-Compacting Concrete (SCC) does not always use conventional materials in its production process. In an effort to utilize environmentally friendly materials, the use of alternative materials such as waste as a substitute for conventional materials can be an alternative to reduce waste that may pollute the environment. One of the waste materials commonly used as a substitute is Recycled Concrete Aggregate (RCA). RCA is generally used as a partial replacement for coarse aggregate; however, its use has the effect of reducing the mechanical properties of concrete due to the characteristics of RCA itself, which differ from those of natural aggregate. However, the reduction in mechanical properties can be mitigated by using Rice Husk Ash (RHA) as a partial replacement for cement because of its relatively high silica content, which can help improve the microstructural quality of SCC. This study aimed to analyze the effect of variations in the use of RCA as a partial replacement for coarse aggregate in SCC containing rice husk ash as a partial replacement for cement on the mechanical properties of SCC, as evaluated by its splitting tensile strength and compressive strength. The concrete mixtures consisted of RCA0%+RHA0%, RCA0%+RHA10%, RCA50%+RHA10%, and RCA55%+RHA10%, with a target compressive strength of 25 MPa at the age of 28 days. The results of this study indicate that the substitution of rice husk ash without RCA improved the mechanical properties of SCC, as indicated by its compressive strength and splitting tensile strength. However, a reduction in the compressive strength and splitting tensile strength of SCC occurred when rice husk ash and RCA were used as substitutions. Based on the results of this study, it can be concluded that the utilization of rice husk ash as a partial replacement for cement was able to reduce the negative effects of RCA and improve the mechanical performance of SCC.
