Abstract
In digital communication, each individual possesses a distinct language characteristic known as an idiolect. This phenomenon is interesting to study because it can demonstrate the relationship between language, speaker identity, and the digital communication environment. This study aims to describe the WhatsApp communication environment among PBSI students, the communication styles used by PBSI students on WhatsApp, and identify factors influencing their idiolects when communicating via WhatsApp. The results indicate that the communication environment among PBSI students via WhatsApp tends to be informal, characterized by the use of casual language, slang, abbreviations, and a mix of regional languages. The communication styles used exhibit diverse characteristics according to each speaker's idiolect, such as the use of non-standard vocabulary, spelling variations, and code-mixing. Factors influencing PBSI students' idiolects include their regional language background, social and social environment, the influence of digital media and communication technology, and communication efficiency.
