Abstract
The operation of Air Conditioners (AC) and room fresheners in mosques is generally performed manually, making it unable to adapt to changing environmental conditions dynamically. This condition may affect worshippers' comfort because room temperature and air quality are not always maintained according to actual needs. This study aims to design and implement an automatic control system for mosque air conditioners and room fresheners based on multiple sensors to improve worshippers' comfort. The proposed system employs an ESP32 microcontroller as the main controller integrated with an AHT20 sensor for temperature measurement, an MH-Z19 sensor for carbon dioxide (CO₂) concentration detection, and the Aladhan API to obtain real-time prayer schedules based on location. A relay module is utilized to control the room freshener, while an infrared LED is used to operate the air conditioner. In addition to automatic operation, the system also provides a manual control mode through Firebase. Experimental results indicate that the AHT20 sensor achieved an average error of 0.52% compared with a digital thermometer. The system sets the AC temperature to 26°C when the room temperature is below 30°C and changes the setpoint to 16°C when the temperature reaches or exceeds 30°C. The room freshener operates at 5-minute intervals when the CO₂ concentration is below 1000 ppm and at 2-minute intervals when the concentration reaches 1000 ppm or higher. Overall, both automatic and manual operating modes functioned according to the designed control logic and were able to support a more comfortable mosque environment for worshippers.
