Abstract

This study aims to examine how the role of the eldest daughter is represented and to explore the cultural meanings attached to it. This research employs a descriptive qualitative approach using Roland Barthes semiotic analysis through three levels of meaning denotation, connotation, and myth. The data were collected through observation and documentation of scenes, dialogues, and cinematographic techniques in the film. The findings reveal that the role of the eldest child is represented through nine scenes and classified into five main categories: as the family breadwinner, the primary person responsible for the family, the family leader, a substitute for the parental figure, and an individual who prioritizes family interests over personal interests. At the level of myth, this representation reinforces cultural constructions that position the eldest child as a figure closely associated with responsibility, sacrifice, and maturity. These findings indicate that film not only reflects social reality but also plays a role in shaping and reinforcing cultural values and ideologies related to the position of the eldest daughter within the family.
