Abstract

This study aimed to examine the relationship between resilience and prosocial behavior among fatherless adolescents in Indonesia. The hypothesis proposed that higher resilience would be positively associated with higher prosocial behavior. Participants were 165 adolescents aged 15–21 who experienced fatherlessness due to parental divorce, recruited via purposive sampling across various regions of Indonesia. A quantitative correlational design was employed. Resilience was measured using the 25-item Connor-Davidson Resilience Scale (CD-RISC 25), and prosocial behavior was measured using a 48-item scale based on Eisenberg and Mussen's theory. Data were analyzed using Spearman's rho correlation. Results revealed a significant positive correlation between resilience and prosocial behavior (rₛ = 0.711, p < 0.001), with a coefficient of determination r² = 0.505, indicating that resilience accounted for 50.5% of the variance in prosocial behavior. Most participants scored in the high category for both resilience (48.5%) and prosocial behavior (80.0%). These findings imply that resilience-strengthening interventions may be an effective strategy to support the social development of adolescents who grow up without a father due to parental divorce.
