Abstract

The phase of being a student, generally at the age of early adulthood, is a time when people tend to seek new experiences, one of which is through socializing with friends. However, not all campus interactions are positive. One increasingly popular behavior among students is the use of e-cigarettes, which is also starting to influence female students who wear the hijab. This study aims to analyze the influence of peer pressure from campus friendships on the cognitive dissonance that leads female students who wear the hijab to start e-cigarettes. Cognitive dissonance theory is used to explain the contradictions and discomfort that arise, leading to changes in attitudes, beliefs, and even behavior. This research uses a quantitative method, sampling with a purposive sampling technique. The results of the study, based on data from 101 respondents, demonstrate that peer pressure has a positive and significant effect in triggering cognitive dissonance in female students who wear the hijab to start e-cigarettes.
