Abstract
T.Adolescents who have a siblings with children with disabilities a variety of experiences that can affect their psychological well-being. This study aims to describe the psychological well-being of adolescents who have a sibling with special needs, understand the dynamics of emotional changes and the process of self-acceptance they experience, and identify the factors that influence their psychological well-being.This study employed a qualitative approach with a phenomenological design to explore the participants subjective experiences in depth. The study participants consisted of four adolescents who have siblings with special needs. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews and analyzed using thematic analysis. The results indicate that the participants’ psychological well-being is reflected through six dimensions: self-acceptance, positive relationships with others, autonomy, environmental mastery, life purpose, and personal growth. The findings also reveal emotional dynamics characterized by a shift from feelings of shame, sadness, and emotional exhaustion toward acceptance, empathy, and pride in their siblings. The process of self-acceptance unfolded through different stages for each participant and was influenced by family support, religiosity, experiences of interaction with siblings, and social support from the surrounding environment. Despite facing various challenges, the participants were able to develop a positive meaning from their experiences, thereby supporting the achievement of greater psychological well-being.
