Abstract

Landslides are a common natural disaster in areas with steep topography, including Ile Ape Timur Subdistrict, Lembata Regency, East Nusa Tenggara. This disaster is caused by a combination of natural factors, such as high rainfall, slope gradients, soil types, and human activities that alter land use. This study aims to analyze the landslide susceptibility levels and identify mitigation efforts in Ile Ape Timur Subdistrict. This research employed a descriptive method with a Geographic Information System (GIS) approach. The data used included slope gradient maps, soil type maps, rainfall data, and land use maps, analyzed using a weighted overlay technique to produce a landslide susceptibility map. Primary data were collected through field observations, while secondary data were obtained from relevant agencies such as BPBD and PUPR of Lembata Regency. The results show that the landslide susceptibility levels in Ile Ape Timur are categorized into four classes: not susceptible (3,174 hectares), less susceptible (25 hectares), susceptible (718 hectares), and highly susceptible (6 hectares). The main factors influencing susceptibility are steep slopes, Andosols soil prone to erosion, and relatively high annual rainfall. Recommended mitigation efforts include structural approaches, such as terracing and the installation of early warning systems (EWS), as well as non-structural approaches, including community education and disaster simulations. This study is expected to serve as a basis for the government and local communities to implement effective landslide disaster mitigation measures, minimizing material losses and casualties.
