Abstract

The proliferation of easily accessible and difficult-to-control internet gambling has resulted from the fast evolution of information technology, which has replaced more traditional forms of gambling. This trend has also taken place in Wonogiri, where people from all walks of life are becoming interested in online gaming. The Wonogiri Police Department's response to illegal internet gambling, as well as the frequency with which such offenses occur, are the subjects of this research. This study makes use of a qualitative research strategy grounded on empirical juridical principles. Interviews with police personnel and reviews of related scholarly works and statutes provided the data. A deductive strategy was used to assess the data qualitatively and draw systematic conclusions. Economic circumstances, social context, and availability of technical access have all contributed to the dramatic growth of online gambling in Wonogiri, according to the data. For the purpose of law enforcement, the following statutes are cited: the Electronic Information and Transactions Law, Article 27, paragraph (2), and the Criminal Code, Articles 426 and 427. Public education and cyber patrols are examples of preventative tactics, whereas legal action against violators is an example of repressive measures. Yet, there are still a number of challenges, such as a lack of funding and the global scope of cybercrime. Finally, Wonogiri has done a thorough job of dealing with offenses related to internet gambling, although it is still not ideal. In order to make things better, we need to beef up our police force, make better use of technology, and work together across sectors more effectively.
