Abstract

This study aims to analyze the representation of Makassar culture and educational values in the film Keluar Main 1994 using Roland Barthes’ semiotic approach. The analysis examines three levels of meaning denotation, connotation, and myth to reveal how cultural symbols and educational messages are narratively constructed through visual texts and dialogue. This research employs a qualitative descriptive method. The findings indicate that Makassar culture is represented through the use of local language, values of solidarity, respect for authenticity, and distinctive social relationships as markers of collective identity. Meanwhile, educational values are reflected in responsibility, discipline, self-development, and character education, which are conveyed through family and friendship dynamics. The film Keluar Main functions not only as a form of entertainment but also as a medium of cultural and moral communication that emphasizes the importance of preserving local identity and strengthening educational values in everyday life.
