Abstract

This study aims to examine the relationship between perceived democratic parenting and Psychological well-being among firstborn children in Surakarta. This research employed a quantitative approach with a correlational design. The participants were firstborn individuals aged 20–30 years living in Surakarta, with a total sample of 107 respondents obtained through purposive sampling technique. The instruments used in this study were the perceived democratic parenting scale adapted from Rahma (2022) and the Psychological well-being scale adapted from Pinasti (2024). The validity test was conducted using corrected item-total correlation with a criterion of ≥ 0.30, while reliability was tested using Cronbach’s Alpha coefficient ≥ 0.70. Data were analyzed using Pearson Product Moment correlation. The results showed that there is a significant positive relationship between perceived democratic parenting and Psychological well-being (r = 0.572; r² = 0.327; p < 0.05). This indicates that the more positive an individual's perception of democratic parenting, the higher their level of Psychological well-being. This 2 study implies that democratic parenting, when positively perceived by individuals, is associated with better Psychological well-being.
