Abstract

The study of “Critical Discourse Analysis Of Lyrics In Night Changes Song By One Direction” is originally written to analyzes the lyrics of the song Night Changes using Norman Fairclough’s three-dimensional model of Critical Discourse Analysis (CDA), which includes text description, discursive practice (interpretation), and social practice. The purpose of this research is to identify the meaning of the song lyrics and to reveal the songwriter’s intention behind them. This research applies a descriptive qualitative method, using the song lyrics as the primary data source. The analysis begins with the textual level by examining vocabulary, grammar, and sentence structures in the lyrics. The second stage interprets the discursive practice by exploring how the lyrics construct narratives about youth, love, and emotional experiences. Finally, the social practice dimension explains how the song reflects broader social realities such as adolescence, generational differences, identity formation, and the passage of time. The findings show that the song portrays the transition from teenage life to adulthood while emphasizing themes of love, uncertainty, and the rapid change of time. Overall, the lyrics function not only as artistic expression but also as a reflection of social and cultural experiences.
