Abstract
The elderly are an age group that is prone to experiencing various health problems, both physical and psychological, one of which is depression. The Rumah Zakat compensation program is given to help improve the welfare of the elderly. This study aims to analyze the difference in the level of depression and independence of the elderly between recipients and non-recipients of Zakat house compensation in Cangkol Village, Sukoharjo Regency. Analytical observational research with a cross sectional approach. The population of this study is the elderly in Cangkol Village, with a sample of 140 respondents consisting of 70 elderly recipients and 70 elderly non-recipients. The sampling technique used cluster random sampling. Data collection was carried out using the Depression Anxiety Stress Scale (DASS-21) questionnaire to measure depression levels and the Lawton Instrumental Activities of Daily Living (IADL) instrument to measure the level of independence. Bivariate data analysis using Mann-Whitney. The results showed that there was a significant difference in depression scores (U= 273,500, p<0.000) and independence level (U=1365,000, p<0.000) between the elderly between recipients and non-recipients. Elderly recipients have lower rates of depression and better levels of independence. The Rumah Zakat compensation program plays a role in reducing the rate of depression and increasing the independence of the elderly.
