Abstract

This study aims to analyze the representation of social class in the series The 8 Show using the semiotic approach of Roland Barthes. The series portrays eight individuals from different economic backgrounds participating in a survival game with monetary rewards. The spatial structure of the building, divided into several floors, represents a hierarchy of social classes and unequal access to facilities. This research employs a descriptive qualitative method with data collection techniques including scene observation, documentation, and literature review. Data analysis is conducted through Barthes’ three levels of meaning: denotation, connotation, and myth. The findings show that spatial stratification in the series reflects social class inequality, where participants on the upper floors have greater access, power, and privilege than those on the lower floors. At the myth level, the series reflects a critique of capitalist ideology that normalizes inequality and reduces humans to economic commodities.
