Abstract
Diabetes Mellitus is a chronic disease that requires optimal self-management, as inadequate management can lead to psychological problems such as stress. This study aimed to determine the effectiveness of Diabetes Self-Management Education (DSME) on stress levels in patients with diabetes mellitus. This study used a quantitative approach with a quasi-experimental design through pre-test and post-test with intervention and control groups. The study population consisted of 251 patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus at Colomadu Public Health Center. The sample size was 106 respondents, consisting of 53 in the intervention group and 53 in the control group, selected using purposive sampling technique. The instrument used was the Perceived Stress Scale (PSS-10), and data were analyzed using t-test. The results showed that before the intervention, the highest proportion of stress levels was in the moderately severe category at 62.3%. After the DSME intervention, there was a significant difference between the intervention and control groups in the post-test results with a value of p = 0.001. It can be concluded that DSME is effective in reducing stress levels in patients with diabetes mellitus; therefore, DSME education should be implemented in a structured and sustainable manner.
