Abstract

This paper examines the effect of eggshell powder (ESP) and rice husk ash (RHA) as a substitute of cement on the mechanical properties of normal concrete. The reason for using ESP and RHA is to decrease the consumption of cement, which aims to lower CO₂ emissions, both materials contain pozzolanic properties, and the combination of these two waste materials has rarely been researched. Due to its composition, ESP and RHA can be utilized to produce high-strength and enhance concrete. The experiment utilized a design of experiment (DOE) method with five mixture variations, with 5% and 10% combinations for ESP and 5% and 7% combinations for RHA as partial replacement of cement materials. Tests were carried out after 28 days of curing to evaluate the slump, compressive strength, and splitting tensile strength of the concrete. The optimal ratio of ESP and RHA as partial substitute alternative is 5% ESP and 5% RHA, show that the combination of ESP and RHA can improve the compressive and splitting tensile strengths of concrete within certain substitution ranges, demonstrating their potential as sustainable cementitious additives. This paper supports the research on environmentally friendly concrete by utilizing agricultural waste materials while maintaining acceptable mechanical performance.
