Abstract

The development of the live broadcast feature on the TikTok platform has created unique dynamics of digital economic interactions, particularly in the use of language variations. This study aims to describe the forms of registers that appear in the speech of sellers and buyers in the TikTok live streaming session of the @farouzzz account. This study uses a descriptive qualitative approach with an extralingual matching method. Data in the form of words and phrases were collected through listening, note-taking, and documentation techniques. Data analysis is based on the register classification theory according to Chaer and Agustina (2014). The results show that all eight forms of registers were found in the interaction, which include: (1) word forms, (2) phrases, (3) abbreviations, (4) acronyms, (5) hyphenation, (6) affixation, (7) special vocabulary, and (8) code-mixing. These findings indicate that registers in TikTok live streaming function as a tool for efficient technical trade communication as well as a sociolinguistic strategy to build emotional closeness (engagement) between sellers and buyers in a dynamic digital ecosystem.
