Abstract

Hypertension is a global health issue with high prevalence and is one of the leading causes of morbidity and mortality. Globally, the number of people with hypertension reaches around 800 million. In Indonesia, hypertension ranks first among chronic non-communicable diseases with 63,309,620 cases and 427,218 deaths. Hypertension is known as a silent killer because it can cause serious complications such as stroke, heart failure, and kidney failure. Unhealthy lifestyles, such as lack of physical activity, unbalanced diets, and smoking, play a role in increasing the risk of hypertension and potentially reducing patients' quality of life. Therefore, quality of life is an important indicator in the management of hypertension. This study aims to determine the relationship between lifestyle and quality of life in hypertensive patients at the Gatak Community Health Center. The study used a quantitative design with a cross-sectional approach conducted from January to June 2025. The sample consisted of 100 respondents selected using purposive sampling. The instruments used were the HLPCQ questionnaire to measure lifestyle and the WHOQOL-BREF to assess quality of life. Data analysis included univariate analysis and Spearman Rank correlation test. The results showed that the average age of respondents was 54.45 years, with the majority being female. Most respondents had a poor lifestyle (89%), while their quality of life was predominantly moderate (61%). Normality tests showed that lifestyle data was not normally distributed. The results of the Spearman correlation test showed a positive but very weak relationship between lifestyle and quality of life (r = 0.161) and was not statistically significant (p = 0.109). The conclusion of this study shows that lifestyle does not significantly affect the quality of life of hypertensive patients at the Gatak Community Health Center. Quality of life is likely influenced by other factors such as treatment adherence, duration and severity of the disease, family support, and psychosocial conditions. Therefore, a comprehensive and sustainable approach to hypertension management is needed. Keywords: Hypertension, Lifestyle, Quality of Life.
