Abstract
The Manikin watershed is important from a hydrological and biodiversity conservation perspective, as well as due to the presence of the Manikin Dam National Strategic Project, which is expected to be completed in 2026. The Manikin watershed is prone to forest and land fires, especially during the dry season. In addition to the potential for fires, another important factor to consider in managing this watershed is the severity of forest and land fires. This study aims to: 1) analyze the level of vulnerability to forest and land fires in the Manikin watershed, 2) analyze the severity of forest and land fires in the Manikin watershed, and 3) analyze the relationship between the level of vulnerability and the severity of forest and land fires in the Manikin watershed. The results of the study show that most of the Manikin watershed area is in the high forest fire risk category, covering an area of 4,488 hectares (50%), followed by the medium risk category covering an area of 3,351 hectares (37%), and the very high risk category covering an area of 1,116 hectares (13%) of the watershed area. As for the severity of forest and land fires, most of the Manikin watershed area is in the unburned category, covering an area of 3,196 hectares (36%), followed by low severity covering an area of 2,896 hectares (32%), moderate severity covering an area of 1,784 hectares (20%), high severity covering an area of 1,026 hectares (11%) and very high severity covering an area of 52 hectares (1%) of the watershed area. There is no correlation between vulnerability levels and the severity of forest and land fires in the Manikin watershed. The higher the level of vulnerability to forest and land fires, the smaller the percentage of forest and land burned, and vice versa.
