Abstract

Telaga Ngebel is one of the leading natural tourism destinations in Ponorogo Regency, known for its scenic lake surrounded by mountain landscapes. However, its potential has not yet been fully optimized, particularly in terms of spatial planning, tourism facilities, and architectural identity. Therefore, this study aims to develop the Telaga Ngebel area into a sustainable recreational destination through a Recreational Waterfront approach. This approach emphasizes the harmonious integration between water elements, recreational activities, and built environments to create interactive and experiential public spaces. The design methodology includes site analysis, potential and problem identification, visitor activity studies, and the application of waterfront design principles such as visual accessibility to water, lakeside public spaces, and the integration of natural recreation with supporting facilities. The design results show that the development of the area is carried out by dividing the main function zones including education and culture zones, culinary and accommodation zones, and recreation zones. Through the Recreational Waterfront approach, the Telaga Ngebel area is expected to become a natural tourism destination that not only offers recreation and entertainment but also strengthens local identity, preserves the environment, and enhances the well-being of the surrounding community sustainably.
